There is a small mirror in each person’s pocket. You can always gaze into it in case you ever forget who you are, who you are supposed to be, or how you are meant to talk and walk. It will dictate who to become. Thus, at every second, you can act precisely according to its instructions. Try as much as possible to follow all directives clearly, and never forget to review your image by looking into the glass.
Each day from then on, you must wake up and face the mirror. Remind yourself to remember them. Feast your eyes upon them one last time, as if it were the first time. Memorize each word, and only then depart for your offices, schools, factories, kitchens, or your respective designated locations.
Just one piece of advice: try only to look at your own mirror and keep yourself entirely consumed by your actions. A break for even a few minutes, whether in gazing or in harboring thoughts outside of these views, outside of these preached doctrines, might make you think. It will make you curious and lead you to ask questions. And that must never happen. So, whenever you feel yourself straying, or if you catch yourself taking a break, simply look at your mirror. Just glance at your mirror once again. It will ensure you walk only along the prescribed path.
Therefore, wherever you are and whatever you are doing – whether you are caught in a school recess, an office rendezvous, a tour of your factory, or simply washing the dishes – search for that mirror in your pocket and look at it sporadically. It won’t take much time, obviously, to revise the principles necessary for surviving here.
But handle it with utmost care. Nothing must happen to the mirror. If you drop it and it shatters, you will have to gather those shards from beneath your feet and thrust one of them into your heart, right below your shoulder. For you have just inherited the curse that belonged to you; you have broken the mirror and thereby thrashed the core principles of life in this society. Now, you are left only with this, and the full weight of your punishment.
